Chicago White Sox Sign Star Hitter Munetaka Murakami on an Major Multi-Million Dollar Deal.
In a major move for their rebuilding roster, the American League club have welcomed Japanese star Munetaka Murakami, completing a two-year contract for the power-hitting player.
Contract Details and Player Perks
The contract grants a seven-figure signing bonus, payable within 30 days, alongside annual pay of sixteen million for the 2026 season and seventeen million for the 2027 year.
Importantly, Murakami's 2027 salary is subject to escalators based on accolade achievements in 2026:
- $1 million for winning the MVP award.
- $500K for finishing as runner-up or in third place in MVP voting.
- $250K for finishing between fourth and tenth.
- Another $250,000 for winning the Rookie of the Year honor.
The agreement also stipulates that he cannot be sent to the farm system without his approval and makes him a unrestricted player at the conclusion of the term. Additional perks include a dedicated interpreter and airfare between his home country and the States.
Posting Fee and Team Legacy
As part of the signing, Chicago owes a posting fee of roughly $6.58 million to the Yakult Swallows, Murakami's former team in Japan's NPB. The Yakult organization get a supplemental fee of fifteen percent triggered incentive payments.
