Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
