The Reds Will Not Abandon Attacking Style Amid Current Struggles, Insists Arne Slot
Arne Slot has revealed that the Anfield decision-makers share his views regarding the recent downturn and he will not abandon their forward-thinking philosophy in search of a improvement. The head coach acknowledged that six unsuccessful results in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Growing Expectations During Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the pressure was on before his rotated squad suffered Carabao Cup elimination against the London club. However, he maintained that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or management structure following a significant spending of almost £450m.
"Our views align," commented the manager, whose team next week face Los Blancos in the continental tournament and play against Pep Guardiola's side in the English top flight.
Team Strength Continues Undoubted
Liverpool's manager thinks his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are fully healthy and all ready for the programme we are facing". He noted that the recent signings in talents including the German international and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the distant prospects".
Integration Challenges
When questioned about why his team were struggling to integrate, he replied: "That question isn't constructive. 'Why, why, why?' I offer insights and people say I'm making justifications. I can come up with several explanations why we are struggling for victories or suffering defeats as we do but, as I say every time, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."
- No matter if I could list multiple factors
- Leading this club you should not suffer defeats
- The reality is six losses from seven matches
Defensive Statistics
Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have allowed more significant openings from normal situations this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The first-place team, the North London club, have allowed just two. Yet the manager disputes the champions have been too open and claims there is no justification to compromise forward-thinking approach for a cautious system after ten fixtures without a clean sheet.
"I don't see us conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to change our playing style completely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he declared.
Recent Examples
"When facing United, how many openings did we give up? Versus the German side when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In each fixture we have played so far we haven't allowed a numerous openings. Definitely not. We do give away a somewhat more than last season but that has to do with us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't feel that our problem is that we allow too many opportunities. Our problem is we don't score the opportunities we generate."
