Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to develop a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic landscape. The project has been announced, with a funding drive planned to launch in the spring of 2026.
"This endeavor aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an official release.
Initial offerings will include a starter set, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various premium versions.
Exploring The Division's Dystopian World
In this setting, a lethal pathogen called Green Poison was released in New York City, plunging the United States into chaos. As the pandemic worsens, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents come in.
Development on the RPG has been in progress for about several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a preorder system to access a broader market, specifically in North America. Production will start right after the campaign, with shipping expected for the latter part of 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the system reveals it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and tactical style. Players leverage abilities to roll small dice pools, typically from one to five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, participants choose a single “result die” from the pool.
- This die is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as extra damage or enhanced aid.
Engagements Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness
Fights prioritize positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight have a direct impact success chances. This system is designed to favor coordination and smart positioning instead of raw numbers.
A Novel Wound Mechanic
The way injuries is managed adds a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At critical condition, an operative collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
- They may still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the last stand common to many shooter games.
- Any agent in this state must roll on a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like trauma or crippling injuries.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A publicly available Quickstart Guide will be released soon. It includes a pre-made starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group spearhead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an attack by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the full range of offerings will be detailed closer to the Kickstarter start date.
