Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
